Agnes Ngetich Sets World Record, Wins Gold in Copenhagen
Kenya’s Agnes Jebet Ngetich produced a dominant performance to win the women’s half marathon at the 2026 World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, while setting a new women-only world record.
Ngetich clocked 1:05:15, taking one second off the previous record of 1:05:16 set by Peres Jepchirchir in 2020. She led from start to finish and won by 50 seconds.
Fellow Kenyan Veronica Loleo claimed silver in 1:06:05, securing a 1-2 finish for Kenya. Rwanda’s Florence Niyonkuru took bronze in a national record of 1:06:08.
The victory adds to Ngetich’s impressive 2026 season after she also won the world cross-country title earlier in the year. Kenya further claimed the team gold in the women’s half marathon.
