Barasa to Oparanya: You Cannot Decide Leaders for Kakamega
Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has directly hit out at Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, warning him against claiming he will decide who gets elected as MCA, MP or Governor in Kakamega County.
Responding to Oparanya’s remarks, Barasa made it clear that only the people of Kakamega will choose their leaders.
“Kuna jamaa anasema atapanga wana Kakamega… anasema yeye ataamua nani atachaguliwa MCA, MP na Governor. Sisi nyinyi ndio mtachagua,” Barasa said.
He reminded Oparanya that he already served for ten years as Governor and is now a Cabinet Secretary, urging him to unite Kakamega residents instead of dividing leaders.
“Kama unasaidia William Ruto, unganisha wana Kakamega, sio kugawanya viongozi wa Kakamega. Tafuta kura ukisaidia Ruto kwa kuunganisha wana Kakamega wote,” the Governor added.
Barasa’s strong response signals rising political tension between the two leaders as the race towards 2027 begins to take shape in Kakamega.
Questions on the ground:
Is this the beginning of an open political clash between Barasa and Oparanya?
How will this confrontation affect unity in Kakamega ahead of 2027?
Which side do residents believe should determine the county’s leadership?
Stay informed. Stay ahead.
