NAIROBI, Kenya— Drama unfolded at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters on Kiambu Road on Tuesday when a man linked by the National Police Service to recent political violence in Homa Bay surrendered to the authorities, only to be turned away.
Oliver Ochieng Jaoko, popularly known as "Olivetti," presented himself at the DCI headquarters accompanied by prominent political figures, including Siaya Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, along with his legal team.
The National Police Service had previously named Jaoko as a prime suspect and person of interest following the deadly chaos that marred the Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay. The unrest resulted in two fatalities, multiple injuries, and widespread property destruction.
However, in a surprising turn of events, DCI officers at the headquarters turned Jaoko away, claiming they were unaware of any official directives, active investigations, or warrants issued for his arrest regarding the Homa Bay incident.
Following the refusal by DCI headquarters, Jaoko and his legal team proceeded to the Muthaiga Police Station to attempt another formal surrender. Speaking to reporters outside the facility, Jaoko maintained his innocence, strongly denying any involvement in orchestrating or participating in the violence.
