Gachagua Fires Back at Duale Over “Hyenas” Remark and Rejects NCIC Summons
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a strongly worded statement reacting to Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale’s recent remarks in which he allegedly referred to people from Mt. Kenya as “hyenas.”
Gachagua stated that Duale, whom he described as having been sent by President William Ruto, went too far with the comments. He noted that Duale was later summoned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to explain himself.
According to Gachagua, Duale responded by saying he would only honour the summons if Gachagua himself was also summoned over unspecified tribal remarks.
Gachagua dismissed the NCIC’s actions, claiming the commission has been directed to investigate him in order to deflect attention from the outrage caused by Duale’s statements. He described the NCIC as “an appendage of the Government” rather than an independent body.
“I shall continue calling out Mr. William Ruto and his surrogates; a compromised NCIC will not stop me, not even for a minute,” Gachagua said.
He added that his remarks remain truthful and factual, and invited anyone aggrieved to seek redress in the courts of law. He concluded by stating that the liberation of Kenyans is unstoppable as the country moves towards 10th August 2027.
Questions on the ground:
Will the NCIC proceed with investigations against both Duale and Gachagua?
How will these exchanges shape the political temperature ahead of 2027?
Are state institutions maintaining neutrality in handling hate speech cases?
Stay informed. Stay ahead.
