Governor’s Cup 2026 to Feature New Sports and Special Categories
The 2026 edition of the Kakamega County Governor’s Cup will feature a wider range of sports and inclusive categories, according to the County Executive.
The tournament will include men and women football, rugby, athletics, netball and volleyball. New special categories have also been introduced, among them tug of war, a grannies’ competition, and events for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The grannies and PWD categories will only feature at the bonanza stage of the competition.
CECM for Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture, Ms. Jackline Masicha, said the Governor’s Cup continues to serve as a key platform for identifying and nurturing talent among young people across the county.
Chief Officer for Sports Saxon Kweyu and other officials from the department were present during the preparatory meeting held at Bukhungu Stadium, alongside stakeholders from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
Governor Fernandes Barasa is expected to preside over the official launch of the tournament.
