Grade 9 Student Killed at Disco Matanga in Sango Ward
A Grade 9 student from Lukusi Junior School in Sango Ward has died after being assaulted by a fellow student at a disco matanga.
Selebestia Wasike was attacked around 11pm on the night of 16th into 17th October 2026 while attending a disco matanga held in memory of a neighbour. According to his older brother Dan Wasike, a student identified as Jack called Selebestia aside and hit him with a rungu.
After the assault, Selebestia yelled loudly. His brother rushed to him, took him home, and the parents later rushed him to Likuyani Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
His parents, Christopher Wesonga and Jane Wesonga, had earlier warned him against attending the disco matanga.
The incident has shocked the community, especially because Grade 9 students were scheduled to begin their national examinations on Monday, 19th October.
Residents of Lukusi and Sango Ward are calling for thorough investigations and justice for the deceased student.
Stay informed. Stay ahead.
