“I Listened to You” – Hon. Joseph Wafula Drops MP Race, Contests MCA Kongoni Ward
Kongoni – In a major political shift, Hon. Joseph Wafula Katienyi has announced he will no longer vie for the Likuyani MP seat. Instead, he will contest for Member of County Assembly (MCA) in Kongoni Ward on a DAP-K Party ticket.
In a strongly worded statement posted on his official Facebook page, the aspirant said the decision followed deep consultations with residents, youth, elders and leaders in Kongoni Ward.
“I have listened carefully and deeply to your voices,” he wrote. “You want leadership that is closer to you, leadership that understands you, and leadership that walks with you.”
He described the move as “selfless and deliberate,” adding that it is “not about me, it is about us… about service.”
The announcement has sparked immediate reactions in Kongoni and across Likuyani, with many residents welcoming the decision as a sign of humility while others are questioning what it means for the wider 2027 race.
Questions on the ground:
Why the sudden shift from MP to MCA?
Does this move strengthen or weaken the political landscape in Kongoni Ward?
