County Government Hits Out at Malicious Video Against Barasa
The County Government of Kakamega has condemned what it describes as a malicious and defamatory publication targeting Governor Fernandes Barasa.
In a statement released on 29th September 2026, the county said it had noted with grave concern the circulation of a manipulated and AI-generated video on social media by Cleophas Malala and his surrogates.
According to the statement, the video deliberately attaches an official photograph of the Governor to a fabricated setting involving an individual alleged to be a witch doctor, with the intention of misleading the public and damaging his reputation.
The county described the use of digitally manipulated or AI-generated material against a public officer as a serious matter that warrants scrutiny.
Legal action against Cleophas Malala and others involved in the publication and dissemination of the material was initiated on 29th September 2026 at Kakamega Central Police Station.
The statement further called on residents of Kakamega and members of the public to ignore, reject and refrain from circulating the malicious publication.
It added that no amount of fabricated digital content or political theatrics would distract the Governor from delivering the county’s development agenda.
