Food, Hills, Bikes and Vibes in Likuyani
In Likuyani, one of the most loved meals is Katakata Chapo — chapati that has been sliced into small pieces and served with soup of maharagwe or ndengu. Unlike the usual way of eating chapati with a full stew, here most people prefer the light soup version. It is simple, filling, and available in almost every kibanda from Matunda to Nangili.
When residents want to hang out, Mawe Tatu remains a favourite spot, especially during holidays and festive seasons. The three small hills offer a light hike, fresh air, and a perfect place for groups of friends to sit, talk and take photos.
Young people also have more entertainment options these days. Platforms like Masheree.com organise adventures and festivals, while groups such as DK Entertainment have been active in events, including the recent Miss Curvy Likuyani 2026.
Then there is Nduthi culture — a growing trend of modified motorbikes with bright colours, drawings and unique designs, similar to the ganya buses seen in the city. The riders usually move in crews, travelling together to different places as a group. It has become both a style statement and a social activity.
Life in Likuyani may not have big city clubs, but between katakata chapo, short hikes at Mawe Tatu, colourful Nduthi bikes and youth events, residents have created their own vibrant social scene.
