Residents Question KSh 7 Million Price Tag on Mumias East Box Culvert
Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has announced the launch of a box culvert project in Eluche, Khabakaya and Ebungale at a cost of KSh 7 million.
According to the MP, the project is meant to improve connectivity and solve the problem of dangerous river crossings during the rainy season. He listed similar projects previously done in other parts of the constituency.
However, the announcement has been met with frustration and scepticism from a section of residents in Mumias East, Kakamega and beyond. Many are openly questioning how a single box culvert can cost KSh 7 million.
Questions being asked on the ground:
Is KSh 7 million a fair and justified cost for this type of box culvert?
What is the detailed breakdown of the KSh 7 million?
How does this cost compare with similar box culverts constructed elsewhere in Kakamega or other counties?
Why are residents only learning about the full cost after the project is being launched?
While improved infrastructure is needed, the growing public concern shows that many people want greater transparency on how development funds are being used.
Stay informed. Stay ahead.
