Linda Mwananchi: Homa Bay Violence Was a Coordinated Attack
Linda Mwananchi has condemned the violence that met its leadership and supporters during a tour of Homa Bay County on Sunday, 16th August 2026, describing it as a deliberate and coordinated operation rather than spontaneous chaos.
In a press statement, the movement said its convoy encountered blocked roads from the Kisumu–Homa Bay border and throughout the county, with police roadblocks allegedly working alongside goons. It further claimed that armed individuals positioned in bushes fired directly at the convoy.
The statement noted that lives were lost, several vehicles were burnt or damaged, and a number of supporters were injured, with some evacuated to Kisumu for specialised treatment. As of the latest update, two people had succumbed to their injuries, while others underwent surgery, including one leg amputation.
Linda Mwananchi held the National Police Service and the National Intelligence Service accountable for the conduct of their officers, accusing some of facilitating rather than preventing the violence. The movement called on the Inspector General of Police, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority, and the Director General of the NIS to explain the role of their personnel.
The statement also demanded public accountability from Homa Bay leaders, including Governor Gladys Atieno Wanga, MP Peter Opondo Kaluma, and Kwabwai Ward MCA Richard Ouma Ogindo, over what happened under their watch.
Linda Mwananchi maintained that it will not be intimidated into silence and vowed to pursue accountability through legal and constitutional means.
