ODM Replaces Benard Mulama as Majority Whip – Brian Mafunga of Likuyani Ward Appointed
Kakamega – The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has officially removed Hon. Benard Mulama (MCA for Lumakanda Ward) from the position of Majority Whip in the Kakamega County Assembly.
In a letter dated 21st July 2026 (Ref: ODM/2026/496/007) addressed to the Speaker of the Kakamega County Assembly, Hon. James W. Namatsi, the party confirmed that Mulama ceased to hold the position after voluntarily exiting ODM membership.
The letter, signed by ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong’wen, states that the party has immediately appointed Hon. Brian Mafunga, the MCA for Likuyani Ward, to fill the Majority Whip position.
This development comes after reports that Mulama had joined the Linda Mwananchi movement associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
Questions on the ground:
How will this leadership change affect the dynamics in the Kakamega County Assembly?
What does this mean for ODM’s control and unity within the assembly?
Will other MCAs follow Mulama’s path as political realignments continue toward 2027?
The appointment of Likuyani Ward MCA Brian Mafunga as the new Majority Whip marks a significant shift in the county assembly leadership.
Stay informed. Stay ahead.
