Malala: Barasa Is Deducting KSh 10,000 from Every ECDE Teacher Monthly
Former Senator Cleophas Malala has accused Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa of underpaying ECDE teachers and misusing funds meant for their salaries.
Speaking recently, Malala claimed that while the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) recommends about KSh 61,000 for degree holders, many diploma ECDE teachers in Kakamega have been placed in the lower job group meant for certificate holders.
He alleged that as a result, the county is withholding approximately KSh 10,000 from each teacher every month.
“Huyu Barasa anakula pesa hata pesa ya walimu wa ECDE. Kwa kila mwalimu wa ECDE, Barasa anakula elfu kumi yake kila mwezi,” Malala said.
He further compared the construction of ECDE centres, stating that Barasa has built only 29 centres in four years, while former Governor Wycliffe Oparanya constructed 189 in the same period.
Malala called on the Auditor General to investigate the salaries of diploma ECDE teachers, estimating that nearly 1,610 teachers have been affected over the past four years.
Questions on the ground:
Is the county underpaying diploma ECDE teachers as claimed?
How many ECDE centres has the current administration actually completed?
Will the Auditor General take up the matter?
Stay informed. Stay ahead.
