Malala and Khalwale at Wamunyoro: Who Steps Down in Kakamega?
A meeting at Rigathi Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri on Tuesday brought together leaders from DCP and Linda Mwananchi, including Cleophas Malala and Senator Boni Khalwale.
While the bigger discussion centred on possible opposition cooperation ahead of 2027, the presence of both Malala and Khalwale has once again put the Kakamega gubernatorial race in the spotlight.
For months, Cleophas Malala has repeatedly stated that if Edwin Sifuna wants full support from him and DCP, he should drop Boni Khalwale from the Governor race. Malala has warned against bringing Khalwale, saying it will only give him a headache, while promising to deliver Mount Kenya votes if his condition is met. Khalwale, on the other hand, has continued to position himself as a serious contender under the Linda Mwananchi banner.
Now that the two men have appeared together at the same high-level meeting, the key question remains unanswered:
Who will step down for who?
Will Malala give way to Khalwale, or will Khalwale be asked to step aside for Malala? Or will both dig in and risk splitting the opposition vote in Kakamega?
No official statement has been released on whether the Kakamega seat was discussed. As political realignments continue, residents of Kakamega will be watching closely to see whether this meeting produces any clarity — or whether the two leaders will continue on a collision course.
Questions on the ground:
Was the Kakamega Governor race discussed at Wamunyoro?
Will one of them eventually step aside?
How will this affect opposition votes in Kakamega in 2027?
Stay informed. Stay ahead.
