Mugabe Camp Silencing Critics Over Uhuru Remarks
A worrying pattern is emerging in Likuyani’s online spaces.
Several posts, videos and discussions about remarks made by MP Innocent Mugabe against former President Uhuru Kenyatta have been deleted from local Facebook groups. One of the posts that was removed had already attracted over 40,000 views and hundreds of comments before it disappeared.
It is not only Likuyani Digest content that has been affected. Multiple posts and videos related to the same remarks have also been taken down across different groups.
One of the moderators involved in the deletions has been identified as Sophy, the secretary to the Nzoia Ward MCA and a known supporter of the MP.
This raises a straightforward question:
Were these remarks made by ordinary residents, or were they made by the Member of Parliament himself?
If a leader makes a public statement, citizens have every right to discuss it. Deleting posts that simply report or debate what the MP said is not moderation — it is censorship.
This issue carries extra weight in Matunda and parts of Likuyani, areas that are home to many residents with roots in the mountain region. Attacking a former President who still commands respect among sections of the community, and then attempting to silence any discussion about it, only deepens public frustration.
Controlling community groups to protect a politician from criticism does not erase public opinion. It only shows a determination to control the narrative at all costs.
Questions on the ground:
Who is directing the deletion of these posts and videos?
Why is criticism of the MP being treated as an offence?
Are local Facebook groups still open community spaces, or have they become political tools?
Stay informed. Stay ahead.
