Mugabe: They Knew Raila Would Die So Karua Could Be President
Likuyani Member of Parliament Hon. Innocent Maino Mugabe has made a serious claim against former President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Kikuyu community over the choice of Martha Karua as Raila Odinga’s running mate in 2022.
Mugabe spoke on Sunday, September 20, 2026, during a women and boda boda empowerment programme in Butere.
According to the MP, the decision to pick Karua was deliberate.
“Kikuyu community na Uhuru Kenyatta walikuwa wametuchenga. Walikuwa wanajua Raila atakuja kufa, na Rais wa leo wa Kenya angekua Martha Karua,” Mugabe said.
He argued that they pushed for Karua while knowing Raila would die, so that she would end up as President of Kenya. Other names such as Kalonzo Musyoka and Peter Munya were available, but Karua was the one chosen.
Mugabe described the move as a calculated political scheme that ultimately failed.
