In a move that has left many politicians in Kakamega scrambling, ODM has officially walked away from the broad-based government experiment. Party organs have suspended all coalition engagements, stopped any campaigning for the 2027 Ruto ticket, and made it crystal clear: the uneasy marriage is over.
For Likuyani Sub-County UDA members, this is not just national news — it is a local earthquake.
Dennis Mulago, the consistent UDA loyalist who stood with the party long before any broad-based shortcuts were invented, is now the undisputed frontrunner for the Sub-County Chairmanship. Mulago never jumped ship for coalition convenience. He was UDA when it was hard, not when it became fashionable through ODM handshakes.
On the other side sits Kevin Amira, whose rapid rise in the UDA ranks was widely linked to the broad-based government dynamics and the backing that came with it. With those doors now firmly shut, Amira’s camp is facing uncomfortable questions from the very grassroots that once tolerated the coalition formula.
Community voices in Matunda, Kongoni, and Nzoia Ward are already calling this “the return of the real UDA.” One longtime mobiliser told Likuyani Digest anonymously:
“Mulago has been here through the rain and the sun. He didn’t need any ODM umbrella to show loyalty. The broad-based passengers must now step aside. This chair belongs to those who bled for the party, not those who arrived on a temporary ticket.”
As UDA prepares its internal polls, the message from the ground in Likuyani is simple: the coalition experiment is dead, and the original soldiers are taking back their positions. Dennis Mulago is not just in pole position — he is the position.
The days of imported loyalty are over. Likuyani is watching.
