Registrar Approves Linda Mwananchi Movement Name Change
The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has formally initiated the process of changing the name of The Equitable Party (TEP) to Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM).
In a letter dated 13th October 2026, Registrar of Political Parties John Cox Lorionokou confirmed that the office had received and reviewed the required documents and commenced the gazettement process under Section 20(1)(d) of the Political Parties Act.
The move follows a resolution passed by TEP’s National Executive Committee on 8th October 2026 to adopt the new name. The party also published a public notice in the Daily Nation on 10th October and submitted the necessary statutory forms.
A 14-day window for public representations is now running. After that period, the party is required to report any feedback received and how it was addressed before the name change is fully gazetted.
The development marks a significant step for Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and his allies, who have been positioning Linda Mwananchi Movement as their political vehicle ahead of the 2027 General Election. Earlier attempts to reserve the name had faced legal hurdles before the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal intervened.
Once the gazettement process is completed, Linda Mwananchi Movement is expected to become the official name of the party.
Stay informed. Stay ahead.
