Promises Ruto Made at St Marks Catholic Church, Matunda
President William Ruto made a series of development promises on Sunday, 11th October 2026, while attending mass at St. Marks Catholic Church in Nzoia, Matunda.
Roads
The contractor for the Matunda Kona Junction–Brigadier road will be on site this week. The President said he will return to commission the project after Mashujaa Day.
Expansion of the Maili Tisa (Lisseru)–Kitale road will commence before Christmas.
He also indicated he will look into the Moi’s Bridge–Machine road after the commissioning of the Matunda–Brigadier road.
Education
Construction of 12 classrooms and a laboratory at St Anne’s Nzoia Girls High School.
KSh 10 million for Matunda SA Secondary School.
KSh 100 million for the construction of Wambunge University TVET in Likuyani, a partnership with JKUAT.
Healthcare
Kakamega Referral Hospital will be upgraded to Level 6 next month. Once gazetted, the national government will take over its annual funding and operations.
The announcements were welcomed by local leaders and residents who have long pushed for better roads, education facilities and improved healthcare services in Likuyani and the wider Kakamega region.
