Savula: Uhuru Should Surrender KSh 3 Billion Retirement Benefits
Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has called on retired President Uhuru Kenyatta to surrender his retirement benefits to the State.
Speaking during a youth engagement forum in Ang’urai, Teso North Constituency, Savula argued that the reported KSh 3 billion should instead be redirected to development projects that directly benefit Kenyans.
He further stated that the court’s position on the political activities of retired presidents should guide the next course of action, including accountability over benefits allegedly accrued during activities he described as contrary to the law.
Savula maintained that the Constitution places restrictions on the political activities of retired presidents and that the law must be respected.
He also urged young people across Western Kenya to actively participate in political processes ahead of the 2027 General Election and support President William Ruto’s development agenda.
The forum was attended by Western Region Presidential Campaign Team chairperson and Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka, Teso North MP Okuu Kaunya, Teso South MP Mary Emase, Sirisia MP John Waluke, Kiminini MP Kaikai Bisau, Shinyalu MP Fred Ikana, among other leaders.
Questions on the ground:
Is there a legal basis for recovering retirement benefits from a former president?
How will this call affect political dynamics in Western Kenya?
Will other Broad-Based leaders take a similar position?
Stay informed. Stay ahead.
