Savula: Gachagua and DCP Have No Place in Kakamega
Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula on Tuesday declared during Mashujaa Day celebrations that Rigathi Gachagua and his Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) cannot be “Shujaa” in Kakamega.
Savula stated that Kakamega and the wider Western region belong to the Broad-based government of ODM and President William Ruto. He added that President Ruto is expected to tour Kakamega and Western Kenya next week, where leaders will show that the region remains firmly in the Broad-based fold.
The remarks come at a time when DCP Deputy Leader Cleophas Malala, who hails from Kakamega and is eyeing the Governor seat, has been facing continuous political attacks from Broad-based leaders in the region.
Interestingly, Savula’s statement was made around the same period when Gachagua was hosting Edwin Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi team at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri — a meeting that has sparked talk of a possible opposition realignment.
This development raises a bigger question for Western Kenya: Who will have the stronger political influence in the region going into 2027 — the Broad-based government that currently controls most leadership positions, or the emerging DCP–Linda Mwananchi alignment?
Questions on the ground:
Can DCP and Linda Mwananchi make inroads in Western despite Broad-based dominance?
How will Cleophas Malala navigate the hostile reception from Broad-based leaders in Kakamega as he eyes the Governor seat?
When Ruto tours Western next week, will the region speak with one voice?
Stay informed. Stay ahead.
