Opposition Governors Lead Rankings as Barasa Falls Outside Top 25
The Infotrak CountyTrak Performance Index 2026, released today, has ranked Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata (80%), Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya (76%), and Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi (71%) as the top three best-performing governors in Kenya.
All three are associated with the opposition side of politics.
In contrast, Kakamega Governor Fernandez Barasa, who is part of the broad-based government arrangement, did not feature in the top 25. He is listed among governors who received less favourable ratings, placing him in the lower half of the 47 county leaders.
The survey, conducted between January and May 2026 with 36,200 respondents across all counties, measured public approval and performance.
Questions on the ground:
Why are opposition governors topping the performance rankings while some in government are struggling?
What specific areas of service delivery in Kakamega are pulling Barasa’s rating down?
Will the Ranking push the county leadership to accelerate visible projects in places like Likuyani and Matunda?
Residents will be watching whether the poor ranking leads to any change in delivery on the ground.
Stay informed. Stay ahead.
