Kakamega County Develops Emergency Medical Services Plan
Kakamega County health officials on Friday met partners to develop the County Emergency Medical Services Plan aimed at improving ambulance response and emergency care for residents.
The information was shared by the Kakamega County Government on its official Facebook page.
The meeting brought together officers from the Department of Health Services, PATH Nuru Ya Mtoto, Insight Health Advisors (IHA) and Emergency Medical Kenya Foundation (EMKF).
According to Director for Medical Services Dr. Stephen Wandei, once the plan is operational, residents will be able to access emergency medical care without making any payment for the first 24 hours of an emergency.
The plan also seeks to introduce a toll-free emergency number for ambulance requests, establish a well-equipped Ambulance Emergency Command Centre, and ensure both public and private ambulances are registered and inspected according to KEBS and KMPDC standards.
Partners reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the county in strengthening emergency healthcare services.
The County Referral Coordinator Mr. Joel Abwanzo and members of the County Health Management Team also attended the meeting.
Questions on the ground:
How will this plan work amid the ongoing nursing strike in Kakamega hospitals?
When will the toll-free emergency number and command centre become operational?
Will residents in rural areas like Likuyani benefit equally from the improved ambulance system?
Stay informed. Stay ahead.
